Sugar Foods recalled their 3.5 ounce pouches of Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style on Friday (November 22) due to "a contamination of undeclared wheat allergen."

According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, individuals allergic to wheat could experience a "serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product."

The company was notified of the contamination on November 19th when a consumer brought an ingredient issue to their attention. The individual noted that the Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style contained crispy onions instead of tortilla strips and the crispy onions contained wheat; an ingredient neither present in the tortilla chip variation nor listed on the label.

Consumers should avoid purchasing, return (for a full refund), or throw out any Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style in 3.5 ounce pouches with UPC Code "7 87359 17504 6", and Best By Date "June 20, 2025." The recalled products (distributed between September 30th and November 11th) were sold in 22 states across the country and were sent to distribution centers in Pennsylvania.

No illnesses have been reported as a result of consuming the recalled chips.
