Thirteen Trucks Park Under Overpass To Save Suicidal Man

posted by Bill Galluccio -

Michigan State Police got creative when trying to save the life of a suicidal man. Police encountered a man on an overpass on I-696 early Tuesday morning who was threatening to jump. Unable to talk him down, the police called on some truck drivers for help.

According to the Detroit Free Press, police had thirteen trucks park underneath the overpass preventing the man from jumping to his death. With the trucks lined up underneath the bridge, police were able to convince the man to step down from the overpass. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

One of the truck drivers, Chris Harrison, posted a photo of the trucks on the Twisted Truckers Facebook group.

Teamwork in Detroit..guy over on the bridge in the white was trying to commit suicide, truckers all lined up to try to prevent it.

In the comments, Harrison said that the trucks were parked there from 1 am to 3 am. He added that after police talked the man down, a "highway patrolman came to each truck and shook our hands and sd thanks for helping."

In a tweet, the Michigan State Police posted a photo of the trucks parked underneath the bridge highlighting " the work troopers and local officers do to serve the public."

This photo does show the work troopers and local officers do to serve the public. But also in that photo is a man struggling with the decision to take his own life. Please remember help is available through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
