I was proud to be part of the movement to set aside a day to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  When I first worked at our Clear Channel station Power 99 FM we collected 10 thousand signatures which we delivered to Dr. King's wife Coretta Scott King.  Here’s a picture complete with my humongous shoulder pads.

In all -  six million signatures were collected for a petition to Congress which according to Nation Magazine was the largest petition in favor of an issue in US history.

Many will be traveling to Washington DC this weekend for the Action to Realize the Dream March and Rally at the Lincoln Memorial from 8 am to 4 pm sponsored by Martin Luther King III and the Reverend Al Sharpton.  For details Click here.

President Obama will address the Nation from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday August 28th - the actual day of the March on Washington.

Also on Wednesday August 28th in Philadelphia the National Constitution Center will host MLK and His Legacy.  For details click here and check out my interview with Jenna Winterle Museum Programs Coordinator for the National Constitution Center which Honors the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington until September 2nd. My interview also airs on Q102, Mix 106.1 and Radio 104.5 this Sunday from 7-7:30 am.

Comcast has created a moving video series called “His Dream Our Stories" which includes more than 80 interviews with many who were present at the March. You can check that out by going to HisDreamsOurStories.com   and you can also hear my interview with Charisse R. Lillie, Vice President of Community Investment of Comcast Corporation and President of the Comcast Foundation who talks about the series and  the impact of the March on her own remarkable career.  You can listen to it here or tune in to Insight Sunday on Power 99 from 7-7:30 am or WDAS FM and WJJZ 1480 AM between 6-7 AM.

The bill to make Dr. King’s birthday a Holiday was signed on November 2, 1983 by President Ronald Reagan.
