What You Need to Know - the Latest on the Strike

Governor Corbett has asked President Obama to appoint a presidential emergency board to mediate the labor dispute and force the striking engineers and electrical works back to for 240 days.  It is expected that President Obama will grant that request.  If so it would take about 12 hours  to get everything back in gear and the workers back on the job.  The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) began a work stoppage at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 after efforts by federal mediators failed to break a stalemate in their labor dispute..

In the meantime the strike  shut down 13 Regional Rail lines that provide 60,000 passengers with rides on a weekday.  The good news is the SEPTA buses, subways, trolleys and the Norristown High-Speed Line are not affected and they carry about 85 percent of SEPTA riders.  Still the strike means means challenges for many commuters, traffic jams and parking challenges come the work week.

What Service Will Operate

The Market Frankford Line, Broad Street Line, Norristown High Speed Line, Trolley Routes (10, 11, 13, 15, 34, 36, 101, 102), Bus routes, except Route 78, and CCT service will not be affected by this interruption. Route 78 Bus service will be temporarily suspended in the event of a service interruption. To accommodate the anticipated additional volume of customers, Market Frankford, Broad Street, Norristown High Speed, and Route 101/102 Trolleys will run extra capacity between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. If you have the option, please consider adjusting your travel times to avoid crowding and possible delays.

Please note that new schedules go into effect on Sunday, June 15 and Monday, June 16 for the Market Frankford, Broad Street, and Norristown High Speed Lines as well as select Trolley and Bus Routes.


SEPTA owned and managed parking lots at Regional Rail stations will be open and customers can continue to use them for daily parking free of charge. Daily parking fees will continue at any lot, adjacent to Regional Rail Stations, operated by a private company, the City of Philadelphia, or local municipalities.

Parking capacity is available at select SEPTA lots adjacent to the Broad Street, Market Frankford, Norristown High Speed Lines, and Trolleys; we have also arranged for additional parking at non-SEPTA locations as noted in the list below.
